Monuments of past miracles reminded Israelites that God was able to work miracles in their own lives and to enable the people to conquer anything they faced, both at the time and for all the future generations.  We need to tell our stories to remind ourselves and those around us of what God has done and of what he will do.
The stories God has already told, prepare us for the story he is telling.
